Background and Objectives

“Egg for All”: A World Where Everyone, Including Those with Egg Allergies, Can Share the Same Table

Egg allergy is the leading cause of food allergies in Japan, and many people around the world also suffer from it. Hiroshima University and Kewpie Corporation have long been working to address this social issue and have succeeded in developing “allergy-reduced eggs” at the laboratory level. These eggs are expected to provide an additional dietary option for individuals affected by egg allergies.

Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ SME Innovation Promotion Project (Phase 3 Fund), PtBio is pursuing the social implementation of allergy-reduced eggs. This capital and business alliance is intended to further strengthen the research and development framework for allergy-reduced eggs.

Chicken eggs are highly nutritious, versatile in cooking, and an essential part of daily diets. However, for individuals with allergies, not only they but also their families often face challenges in making food choices. PtBio aims to realize a world of “Egg for All,” where everyone, regardless of whether they have an egg allergy, can gather around the same table.

Data-Driven Microbial Breeding through Bio-DX Technology

In recent years, “biomanufacturing” has gained global attention as a sustainable alternative to traditional production processes that rely on fossil resources. To efficiently develop organisms with desired functionalities, however, it is essential to analyze vast amounts of genomic data and identify valuable genetic information through a data-driven approach.

Although academia has released a large number of analytical tools, many industrial players struggle to select and effectively utilize the most suitable tools for their specific objectives and target organisms. PtBio offers “Bio-DX technology,” which integrates state-of-the-art sequencing facilities, advanced bioinformatics, and proprietary analytical tools, enabling the optimal implementation of approaches tailored to customer needs. The company has been advancing data-driven breeding in collaboration with domestic and international partners.

Through the combination of Kewpie’s microbial technology and PtBio’s Bio-DX technology, the alliance is expected to contribute to sustainable raw material procurement and the development of high-performance materials, which led to the conclusion of this agreement.

Please note that the investment amount and shareholding ratio remain undisclosed.
