PtBio Participating in a Project Selected for JST’s “Industrial and Scientific Human Resources Development Program (INSIGHT)”

A project proposed by Hiroshima University has been selected for the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)’s “Industrial and Scientific Human Resources Development Program (INSIGHT)”.

As one of the participating organizations, PtBio will contribute to the development of food tech talent in collaboration with Professor Hiroyuki Horiuchi of the Graduate School of Integrated Life Sciences, Hiroshima University.

■ About the Industrial and Scientific Human Resources Development Program (INSIGHT)

The INSIGHT program was established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a new funding framework designed to strengthen and promote research and development and human resource development in an integrated and comprehensive manner.

The program aims to significantly enhance mobility of human resources between industry and academia, improve labor productivity through increased investment in human capital, and fundamentally strengthen Japan’s international industrial competitiveness as well as its capabilities in science, technology, and innovation. To achieve these goals, the program makes full use of the capabilities of both universities and companies.

■ Overview of the Hiroshima University Project

Overview

Hiroshima University will establish an “INSIGHT Headquarters” and build an ecosystem in which human resources and funding circulate through an innovative, incentive-based cross-appointment system as the core mechanism for facilitating exchange between academia and industry.

Within the university’s areas of strength in manufacturing, the project will develop three fields—biotechnology and drug discovery, food tech, and DX/GX in manufacturing—centered around existing research and educational centers. By promoting five initiatives, including practical education, across the university, the project aims to develop and secure highly skilled talent who can make an immediate contribution to industry while also advancing R&D in collaboration with companies.
